General
Polybond Rust Converter is a reactive polymer which can be applied to all types of rusted steel which has been cleaned. The tough acrylic film provides added protection prior to overcoating.
Rust Convertor Saves Time And Money
Using our product cuts down on preparation costs, makes light of an otherwise difficult, dirty and lengthy job.
Information and Instructions
Apply a single coat of Polybond Rust Converter on to a clean surface. Make sure all traces of oil, grease, loose rust and millscale are removed.
Note : In corrosive and marine environments, rust contains soluble salts, special attention should be paid to these surfaces and they should be washed down with clean fresh water before treatment.
Application
Polybond Rust Converter is supplied ready for use. One coat only is sufficient and should be applied by brush and worked well in to the surface. Try to avoid splashing the material on to other surfaces, particularly concrete as it will stain the surface. The product can be applied by brush, roller or spraygun if required. Ideally, surfaces to be treated should not be at temperatures above 40°C. Surfaces can be treated in damp weather do not use the product in wet weather. Do not overcoat the Converter until it has fully dried. This is characterised by the surface turning a Blue / Black colour over a period of 2 to 3 hours.
Paint Systems
Polybond Rust Converter is not a paint. However, the dry film is very tough and can be left for 4 to 5 days before overcoating longer indoors. Ideally, the treated surface should be overcoated soon after treatment particularly in aggressive environments. A wide range of paints can be used over the Rust Converter.
Polybond technical sales department will be pleased to advise on the most suitable paint from their wide range of Epoxy, Chlorinated Rubber and Modified Alkyd Systems. When applying the product to sandblasted steel, it is possible to avoid the problems of flash rusting which sometimes occur when using water based primers. When treating car bodies the Rust Converter can be overcastted with Synthetic Alkyds, Nitro Cellulose and Acrylic Finishes.
