Q19 Hygiene

Description

Q19 Hygiene is designed to meet the ever-increasing standards of hygiene and cleanliness expected within certain industrial premises. It provides the ideal wall and ceiling finish ensuring a very tough, smooth, continuous tile like system which has low dirt retention and can be regularly cleaned. It will produce a waterproof barrier on most building surfaces including concrete, cement, render, plaster and brickwork. The coating resists the growth of moulds, algae and bacteria and will withstand repeated cleaning by high-pressure washing, steam-cleaning and chemical sterilisation processes.

Q19 Hygiene III is water-based and is safe and easy to apply as with ordinary emulsion paints. It is non-flammable and non-hazardous in use.

The system is currently approved by and used by a number of top international companies such as :
Pfizer UK, Bass Breweries, Marstons, Abbott Ireland, Sarah Lee to name a few.

Application Areas

Food and Pharmaceutical: All working areas in food processing factories, pharmaceutical production, laboratories and canteens must have hygienic, easy to clean wall surfaces. Q19 Hygiene provides a safe, tested non-tainting way of achieving such a finish in either an easy clean high gloss or eggshell finish.

Hospitals and Veterinary Establishments: - Hygienic conditions are critical in medical buildings where bacteria can thrive. Surfaces which can harbour germs and bacteria must be prepared and coated to reduce risks and facilitate easy cleaning and sterilisation. Walls in operating theatres, clean-rooms, kitchens, toilets and bathrooms are particularly at risk. Tiling is always expensive and time consuming. Q19 Hygiene on the other hand is easily applied even in confined areas and has little or no smell. The result is a hard, inert, glossy or eggshell, tile like surface which will out perform all conventional paint finishes and which can be cleaned regularly without damage.

Breweries and Pubs: - Critical areas in Breweries and Pub cellars are often damp. Storage rooms are mainly underground in older buildings and require walls not only to be hygienic but waterproof as well. Getting satisfactory adhesion onto these surfaces is nearly impossible. Q19 Hygiene will answer this problem providing a surface which is hard, hygienic, scrubbable and unable to support the growth of mould, but is at the same a 100% DPM.

Farming and Agriculture:- Current EU regulations demand very high standards of hygiene for wall surfaces in milking parlours, dairies, poultry units, piggeries and abattoirs. It is essential that they are kept clean at all times. Q19 Hygiene provides a safe, easy way of achieving a very high standard that will comply with these regulations - this product has been used in farm buildings for over 25 years.

General

Q19 Hygiene is available in 1, 2.5 and 5 litre balanced packs made up of Base and Hardener.
Three grades are available : Clear primer, Eggshell and Gloss finish in a range of colours.

Preparation

Q19 Hygiene should only be applied to sound, clean, grease free surfaces. Holes and cracks should be repaired prior to painting. Existing paintwork should be very sound and any gloss removed to provide a key. This must not be applied where there is a risk of running water, heavy condensation or temperatures below 5°C. Use electric warm air blowers and ensure good ventilation at all times.

Mixing

Q19 Hygiene is a two-component product. Base and hardener are supplied in matched quantities and must be thoroughly mixed together before use. Do not attempt to split packs. Mixed material has a pot-life and must be used immediately. Clear hardeners cannot be used with Eggshell or Gloss and vice versa.

Application

Brush, short-pile lambswool roller or spray. For spray application, mix base and hardener very thoroughly adding approx. 5-10% cold water to reduce viscosity before loading paint. Airspray @ 60psi with 206 tip. Airless spray at 1800 psi with varitip 20-25 thou. Wash equipment with cold water every hour to prevent build up of materials. Allow six to twelve hours between coats. If brushing or rollering do not lay off excessively and avoid runs.

Q19 Hygiene has shown through many independent tests to possess remarkable resistance to abrasion, staining, impact and spread of flame. It also has extremely low liquid water permeability and provides almost a total water vapour barrier to a range of building surfaces, it resists deleterious effect of alkalies and will adhere directly to damp substrates.

Individual test results are available by request.
