Polytile
2pk Polyurethane System

General

Polytile provides protection to surfaces of all kinds in a wide range of industrial, commercial and institutional fields where a glazed finish is required. It can be applied by brush, roller or spray producing a tough continuous surface which prevents the penetration of moisture, dirt and grease etc. Polytile can be used on walls, ceilings, woodwork, ferrous and non-ferrous metals also GRP surfaces throughout many industries. It has superb release and abrasion resistance properties and is ideal for protecting the inside of bins, hoppers and vessels etc. used for the storage of fine powders such as flour and chemicals (see further information sheet on Polytile Bin Lining Systems). Polytile also provides an excellent release agent for concrete shuttering. The system is used in the finishing of boat hulls and as a clear finish for high quality wooden and cork floors.

Surface pre-treatment

Maximum protection will only be achieved if adequate surface preparation is carried out. All surfaces must be completely dry and free from oil, dust or loose materials prior to painting. Metal surfaces should be free from rust, scale or corroded deposits for which the most effective procedure is shot blasting. If this is not available or conditions preclude the use of grit blasting equipment then the whole area should be carefully mechanically or manually prepared to ensure a clean, keyed surface. When preparing surfaces ultimately to be used for a high quality lining system it is essential that these surfaces are shot blast and primed correctly (See Polytile Bin Lining Literature). Existing paintwork should be sound and any gloss removed to provide a key. It is essential to try a 'patch' test to ensure no lifting or blistering occurs. The correct primer must be used in relation the surface and environment. Please contact our technical department for further information.

Application

The Polytile is 'live' and ready for use as soon as the resin base and hardener have been mixed together. Use a soft brush well loaded with the material. Apply a generous coat and do not brush out excessively. If the material 'curtains' on vertical surfaces, pull up quickly. Do not lay off excessively. If small bubbles appear, allow the coating to dry off for some ten minutes and then disperse them by lightly passing the tip of the brush over the surface. If Polytile is to be sprayed, mix as directed above and then add no more than 10% Thinners No 3. Spraying pressure is normally about 2.81 kg per cm² - 3.51kg per cm². Air supply for spraying must be thoroughly dry. If available, Airless equipment should be used.

Health and Safety

Please note that Polytile has a flash point of 32°C and should only be used away from possible sources of ignition. Attention must be given to industrial hygiene, extraction of vapours and fire precautions. Personnel should be informed of all handling requirements. Polytile contains isocyanates and is harmful by inhalation, contact with the skin and eyes. Do not breathe mist or vapours.
