Glopane Universal

General

Glopane Epoxy is a solvent based, two pack coating for the protection of ferrous metals against corrosion.

It also offers high adhesion and abrasion resistance. It provides an ideal primer for Epoxy and Polyurethane finishes such as our Epiglo and Polytile paint systems. It is suitable for use as a primer or a self-finish.

Glopane Epoxy achieves its corrosion inhibiting properties from the galvanic action which develops in corrosive conditions between the metallic zinc in the product and the steel surface. The metal is protected even in scratch lines where the substrate is exposed and the lateral spread of corrosion is prevented. Glopane Epoxy is ideally suited for use on surfaces which need long term protection i.e. bridges, gasholders, steel window frames, water & oil tanks, rainwater goods, atmospheric condensers etc. and in its stoved form on vehicle bodywork, white goods, steel equipment, hollow ware, traffic signs and springs etc.

The chemical and weathering resistance of the resins used in Glopane Epoxy are first class although the product should not be used in conditions in which there is likely to be chemical attack on the zinc pigment itself.

Surface Preparation

The protective action of Glopane Epoxy depends on an electrical contact being made between the metallic zinc in the coating and the iron or steel surface. The better the surface preparation, the longer the life of the coating. In all cases, millscale, paint, dirt or grease must be removed. Minimum preparation should involve thorough wire brushing. For severe or heavy-duty applications a chemically clean surface i.e. blast cleaning or acid pickling is necessary.

Application

The product is 'live' and ready for use as soon as the base and hardener have been mixed together. It can be applied by brush, roller or spray but, in all instances, periodic stirring of the mixed material is essential to prevent settling of the heavy metallic zinc. If the material is to be sprayed, up to 10% No. 2 Thinners may be added to suit the equipment being used. Spraying pressure is normally 50-60 psi. All equipment must be cleaned in No. 2 Thinner immediately after use.
