Glopane Universal
General
The most effective anti-corrosion protection for iron and steel is a metallic zinc coating. Glopane Universal is a single pack, general purpose primer for iron and steel that is air drying providing a method of applying a metallic zinc coating to substrates of any size and location. Moreover, any article that was originally hot dip galvanized can be repaired and given further protection.
Glopane Universal was first produced in 1948 and is now the most thoroughly proven zinc rich primer available. The chemical and weathering resistance of the resins in Glopane Universal is first class. The material, should of course, not be used in conditions in which there is likely to be undue attack of the zinc pigment itself. It can be used either as a primer or as a self finish on :
Surface Preparation
The protective action of Glopane Universal depends on an electrical contact being made between the metallic zinc in the coating and the iron or steel surface. The better the surface preparation that can be carried out the longer the life of the coating. In all cases, millscale, paint, dirt or grease must be removed. Minimum preparation should involve thorough wire brushing, though for heavy duty applications, a chemically clean surface such as that provided by blast cleaning or acid pickling is necessary.
Application
Glopane Universal is ready to use straight from the can after thoroughly stirring the contents. The material may be applied by brush, roller or spray, but in all instances, periodic stirring of the mixed material is required to prevent settling of the heavy metallic zinc. If the material is to be sprayed up to 10% Polybond No 1 Thinners may be added to suit the equipment being used. Spraying pressure is normally 50-60 psi. Immediately after use clean all your equipment with Polybond No. 1 Thinners.
