Preparation
Floorguard should only be applied to sound, clean, grease-free surfaces. Pot holes and cracks should be repaired before painting. Floorguard must not be applied where there is a risk of running water, heavy condensation or temperatures below 5°c. Bare concrete and other porous substrates must be primed. Prime only with Floorguard Clear when:
- The concrete is damp
- The finished floor will be subjected to heavy contamination with liquids or chemicals
- The most durable job is required
Alternatively, dry concrete intended for light industrial use need only be primed with PVA or similar, diluted with 4 to 5 parts of water, depending on porosity.
After priming, one coat of Floorguard finish in the desired colour will give an acceptable result at minimum cost. Apply two coats on areas of high wear or when the most durable job is required. For a really glossy finish, apply a topcoat of Floorguard Clear over the colour. Previously coated surfaces in sound condition will not need priming, just one or two coats of the finish.
Mixing
Floorguard is a two-component product. Base and hardener are supplied in matched quantities and must be thoroughly mixed together before use. Do not attempt to split the packs. Mixed material has a pot life and must be used immediately.
Application
By short pile lambswool roller. Allow a period of six to twelve hours or overnight between coats. During application, equipment must be washed in cold water at 1 hour intervals.
Drying
Floorguard will accept light traffic after approximately 24 hours at 15°C and will be fully cured in 3 to 4 days at 15°C. These times will vary according to temperature.
Non-Slip Surfaces
Cast an excess of grit into the first coat of Floorguard whilst freshly wet. Leave overnight then sweep away loose grit. Using a fairly stiff brush, apply another coat to encapsulate.
Coverage
On smooth surfaces of average porosity approximately 10m² per litre of Clear and 8m² per litre for the finish. When coating over grit allow around 5m² per litre.
