Acrapoxy 2 pack Epoxy Primer

Product Function

A general purpose high performance, high build two pack epoxy priming paint system. Acrapoxy gives excellent mechanical properties such as hardness, toughness and chemical resistance combined with good resistance to a wide range of chemicals, including dilute acids/alcohol's and mild solvents.
Acrapoxy is used for general finishing for interior work on ferrous and non-ferrous metals, wood, concrete, fibreglass, asbestos and various plastics.
Acrapoxy clear is used extensively as a high performance clear coat for contract furniture and flooring applications.
Acrapoxy combines a good wet edge time with rapid thorough drying and consistency, curing is good, even at very low ambient temperatures.
Compared with Vapourguard 2 pack epoxy finishes, Acrapoxy coatings possess superior gloss retention and weather resistance and would be preferred for applications in which outdoor durability is more important than chemical resistance. Where it is essential to have the maximum durability and gloss retention possible, combined with chemical resistance and anti-yellowing properties.

Application, Preparation, Pre-treatment and Primers

Thorough surface treatment is very important for the best performance of Acrapoxy top coat and meticulous attention is required in this respect. Standard original finishing procedure is as follows:

Ferrous Metals

  1. Blasting, followed by thorough cleansing and degreasing. For light ferrous metals, clean and degrease only.
  2. Etch Prime recommended.

Non-Ferrous Metals

  1. Fully clean and degrease.
  2. Apply 2 pack etch primer.
  3. Proceed as for ferrous metals.

Concrete/Asbestos

  1. Rough surface.
  2. Prime with concrete and general purpose sealer
  3. Overcoat with Epoxyprime within 24 hours (recommended)
  4. Apply finishing coats within 24 hours.

Wood

  1. Prime with concrete and general purpose sealer - overcoat within 24 hours.
  2. Epoxyprime recommended.
  3. Apply finishing coat within 24 hours.

Special Properties

High build, high performance, economical general purpose. Acrapoxy finishes are suitable for application by brush or spray. For brushing, the lacquer should be used as supplied, without the addition of thinners. Spray application requires the addition of Speed Thinners, after thorough mixing of the two components. Thinning should be carefully done and the consistency should be checked. This should be 25-35 seconds on No. 4 BS Flow Cup. Too low a viscosity gives film build and lack of opacity.

Drying Times

Drying times that may be expected with Acrapoxy are 30 to 45 minutes to the touch dry stage and about 6 to 8 hours to become tack free. Full cure, ultimate hardness and resistance is reached in 5 to 7 days.
Overcoating should be when film is tack free. Overcoating should not be applied after a 24 hour interval. If a long drying interval between coats is unavoidable, it becomes necessary to flat down the prior coat with fine paper to assist with inter-coat adhesion. Acrapoxy rapid hardener may be used in place of the ordinary hardener to cut the initial setting off time, but with the latter, hardening and full cure is the same as with the ordinary hardener.
Since Acrapoxy compositions cure by chemical reaction, the cured polyurethane becomes solvent resistant and difficult to remove. It is necessary to clean all spray and mixing equipment directly after use. Universal Thinners are suitable for this purpose. Finally moisture in polyurethane is to be avoided at all costs. When using Acrapoxy, all equipment must be carefully dried and brushes, spray guns and air lines must be free from traces of water and oil.
