  1. Identification of Substance

    High Copper Antifouling.

  2. Composition/Information on Ingredients

    Cuprous oxide, organic and inorganic resins, non-hazardous pigments and extenders. Aromatic hydrocarbon solvent containg Trimethyl benzene.

  3. Hazards Identification

    Under the chemicals (Hazard information and packaging) Regulations 1993, antifouling paints must be properly packaged and equally important, correctly labelled before it is sold to the general public. Even if someone is buying a branded antifouling in bulk and selling it in small lots, each container must be properly labelled in accordance with the CHIP Regulations, failure to comply with these regulations is not only an offence but a potential danger is posed to persons that may come into contact with the paint either during use of by accident. Over-exposure causes irritation to eyes and respiratory system. Excessive concentrations may cause headaches, dizziness, drowsiness and in extreme cases loss of consciousness. General health will be affected if the OEL is exceeded over a long period.

  4. First Aid Measures

    General

    In all cases of doubt or when symptoms persist, seek medical attention. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.

    Eye Contact

    Irrigate copiously with clean, fresh water holding the eyelids apart for a minimum of 10 minutes.

    Skin Contact

    Remove contaminated clothing, wash skin with soap and water. Do not use solvents.

    Inhalation

    Move casualty to fresh air, keep warm and give nothing by mouth.

    Ingestion

    Do not induce vomiting. Keep calm and seek medical attention.

  5. Fire Fighting Measures

    This product is flammable and can cause flammable concentrations of vapour. Fire will produce a thick, black smoke containing harmful elements. This product can form explosive concentrations of vapour in confined spaces. Fight large fires with alcohol resistant foam and small fires with dry powder or carbon dioxide. Cool containers exposed to heat with water spray. Use SCBA in confined areas.

    Avoid contact with skin and eyes.

    Environmental Precautions

    Do not release into the environment.

    Methods for Cleaning

    Absorb spillage in non-combustible absorbent materials such as sand or earth. Do not allow to enter drains or water courses. Exclude sources of ignition. Ventilate the area. Observe health precautions and waste disposal requirements.

  7. Handling and Storage

    Handling

    Do not ingest. Avoid contact with skin and eyes.

    Storage

    Store in a well ventilated area where the temperature can remain between 1 - 25°C.

  8. Exposure Controls and Personal Protection

    Exposure Controls

    wash hands with soap and water. Remove and wash contaminated clothing. Do not take internally. Avoid contact with eyes. Avoid prolonged or repeated contact with skin.

    Personal Protection

    Observe good industrial hygiene and safety practices.

    Respiratory Equipment

    Vapours and spray mists must not be inhaled. If the OEL cannot be maintained with exhaust ventilation, a suitable personal respirator should be used.

    Eye Protection

    Splashes entering the eye will cause discomfort and possible damage – wear goggles.

    Hand Protection

    Gloves should be worn.

    Skin Protection

    Wear suitable protective clothing.

  10. Stability and Reactivity

    Stable under the recommended storage and handling conditions (see section 7). In a fire, hazardous decomposition products such as smoke, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and oxides of nitrogen may be produced. Keep away from oxidising agents and strong alkaline and acid materials to prevent the possibility of an exothermic reaction.

  11. Toxilogical Information

    There is no data available on the product itself. Exposure to organic solvent vapours may result in adverse health effects such as irritation of the mucous membrance and respiratory system and adverse effects on the renal and central nervous systems. Symptoms include headache, dizziness, fatigue, muscular weakness, drowsiness and in extreme cases unconsciousness. Splashes in the eyes may cause irritation and reversible local damage. Repeated or prolonged contact with the product, may lead to removal of natural fats from the skin resulting in non-allergenic contact dermatitis and absorption through the skin.

  12. Ecological Information

    Is approved by the HSE under the "Food and Environmental Protection Act 1985 : Part III" and "The Control of Pesticides Regulations 1986".

  13. Disposal Considerations

    Waste such as contaminated solvent and cleaning rags should be sealed in metal containers and disposed of correctly. Consult your local authority.
